What is Spousal Maintenance?
Maintenance awarded indefinitely from one spouse to the other who would fall into poverty because of the divorce.
A claim must be made, and the spouse claiming it must not be more at fault than the other; it may also be awarded where fault is equal. It ends on the recipient remarrying, on death, and when the state of need disappears. Living with another as a couple in fact is also a ground for ending it.
