What is Renunciation of Inheritance?

An heir notifying the court that they do not accept the inheritance passing to them.

The period is three months from learning of the death and of one’s status as heir, and it is strict. The declaration must be unconditional; a partial renunciation is invalid. If the estate is insolvent the inheritance is treated as renounced by operation of law, and that route is not subject to a time limit.
