What is Right in Rem?
A right giving direct control over a thing and enforceable against everyone. Ownership, easement, pledge and land charge are rights in rem.
The strongest form of a right in rem is ownership, which gives its holder the powers of use, enjoyment and disposal. Limited rights in rem confer specific powers over the thing. Over immovable property, rights in rem as a rule arise on registration in the land register.
